SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

WE TAKE CARE OF OUR MOUNTAIN

Mont Rigaud is our playground just as much as yours. The people who run this mountain live, ski, ride, and raise their families here. For us, taking care of nature and the community isn't just a checkbox: it's woven into everyday life, in the small decisions as much as the big ones.

OUR AREAS OF ACTION

Environmental protection

We have a mountain to protect. Not just for us, but for those who will come after us. Our environmental actions aim to reduce our footprint, preserve our natural environment, and raise awareness among our visitors to actions that make a real difference.

Our commitments

LED lighting on all trails

In 2022, we completed the conversion of our entire ski trail lighting system to LED fixtures, significantly reducing our energy consumption while improving lighting quality in the evenings.

A revitalized chairlift

Our Poma Express quadruple chairlift, formerly in service at Bromont, was acquired, fully refurbished by our team, and adapted to our mountain. A great example of practical reuse.

A next-generation snowmaking system

Our next-generation snow guns read weather conditions in real time and adjust automatically to maximize efficiency at every degree of temperature. The result:

  • Less water used
  • Less energy used
  • Better snow coverage

The water we borrow from the river

The snow we make is simply water and air. Water is drawn from the river in the autumn, under permits from the competent authorities, and turned into snow, then naturally returns to the river during the spring thaw. A regulated and responsible cycle.

Our other concrete commitments

  • Electric charging stations: Our parking lot is equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles, available to all our visitors.
  • On-site reuse and repairs Our mechanical workshop repairs, refurbishes, and salvages whenever possible, rather than replacing.
  • Seasonal cleaning chores: Each season, our team and volunteers scour the mountain to pick up trash left behind by winter or summer. A simple, yet concrete action.

COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL COMMITMENT

Mont Rigaud is a mountain rooted in its community. We believe that being part of a community means actively contributing to it, not just operating in it.

Our commitments

Ticket donations and support for local causes

Every year, we donate tickets to numerous community organizations, schools, and local sports teams to support their activities and fundraising campaigns.

Support for local groups

We actively support groups like the Far-Ouest Trail Crew and Les Poules qui roulent, which help keep the mountain and its trails alive.

Safety and accessibility of facilities

We continuously invest in the safety and accessibility of our facilities so the mountain is welcoming to everyone, regardless of level or age.

Workplace harassment prevention policy

We enforce a zero-tolerance policy on harassment in all its forms, so every member of our team can thrive in a respectful and caring environment.

POSITIVE ECONOMIC IMPACT

A healthy mountain is also one that drives the local economy. We believe our business decisions can have a positive impact on the businesses and people of our region. We call it the short supply chain: buy local, work local, celebrate local.

Our commitments

Local purchasing policy

We prioritize local suppliers and partners in all our procurement decisions, from food to sports equipment. We avoid large international platforms as much as possible, in favour of local businesses.

The best beers are local

At the Bistro, the Snack Shack, and during our events, we serve creations from local microbreweries: Le Castor, Cardinal, and Trois-Lacs. Because a beer after skiing tastes even better when it comes from around here.

Music is local too

All our musicians, whether for Saturday night live music or the Fall Colours Weekends, have a strong connection to the region: some grew up here, others chose to make it home. Either way, they're local folks singing for local folks.

Local products and partners

At the cafeteria, on the slopes, and in our rental equipment, we choose local. Products from our local farmers show up in our food offerings, our alpine touring skis are from Quebec brand Féréole, and we point our customers toward Cycle Paul in Vaudreuil and Village Cycle in Hudson for their bike needs. Our strategic partners, like the Auberge des Gallant, Ekinox Physiotherapy and Wellness, and Arbraska Rigaud, share our values and help make Mont Rigaud a complete destination.

The mountain as a showcase for local flavour

During our events, we invite farmers, artisans, microbreweries, and local bike and ski businesses to come showcase their products. Because the mountain is also a place to celebrate the great things happening in our region.
